Quem foi Ary dos Santos:
José Carlos Pereira Ary dos Santos (1937-1984), was born in Lisbon and was a Portuguese poet and reciter.
At the age of only fourteen he published his first poems. Its true literary debut happens with the publication of The Liturgy of the Blood (1963). In 1969 joined the Portuguese Communist Party and after April 25 (Portuguese revolution day), he became an active cultural promoter, traveling throughout the country.
It is through the music that he will reach the public. It was in the history of Portuguese music for having written the poems of four winning songs of the Portuguese Festivals Song. Author of more than six hundred poems for songs, he wrote to several Fado singers, among them, Amália Rodrigues and Carlos do Carmo. He was also noted as reciter.
After his death, his name was given to a square in Alfama district, unveiling an evocative tombstone on the facade of his house, in Rua da Saudade, where he lived practically all his life. His work remains current and the great singers continue to interpret songs with his lyrics.
